I'm having problems with my 57 D17 lift arms not staying up. matter of fact they wont even raise after the first time anymore. The only two things i could think of is the cylinder is leaking past the seals or the hose going to cyl. is ruptured. after one lift the reservoir  is low and the trans fluid is higher. any advice or input would be appreciated.

Since you are transferring oil from hyd sump to tranny I would bet that your suspicions are 100% on the money. Might as well replace seals & hose while apart, rear PTO seal too.   Bill

Can the lift cylinder be gotten to by taking the lift arm housing off?

Yes,  drain oil in trans, rear end and also hyd oil.  Pull PTO shaft out the back,  then take off the lift shaft housing,  the cylinder piston will come with the housing.  should be able to see the hose and the cylinder seals,  also look for a crack where the hose attaches to the cylinder.   Good luck.
