Lately I've been having problems with "crud" getting into the carb. I put in a new fuel line and put a riding mower fuel filter in the line. I'm still getting crud in the carb. What's the smallest micron filter that will still allow fuel to flow through it with gravity?

I use a standard inline automotive filter (G2 Fram) on my pulling tractor. If you are getting that much you may need to pull the tank and clean it out good. I have also taken out the bowl assambly out and added a short piece of copper tubing to the top so you don`t pull fuel right off the bottom of the tank, ususal about an inch and a half will work.

Do you have the screen in the sediment bowl?

No on my puller I ran it straight fron the tank with a quarter turn ball valve in the bottom of the tank.

Take your tank to a garage to get cleaned out. Depending on the age of your tractor, there could be 50 years of crud in there - no filter can block all of that!

I took the sediment bowl off. There was no screen in there. So I bought a replacement screen/gasket and put them in.

Is there some trick to putting in the screen? I can not make gas to stop leaking from where the top of the sediment bowl meets the metal surface of the shutoff valve. I tried installing the gasket first and then the scree, and the screen first then the gasket. It leaks both ways.

The casting is probably warped so you may need a new one. Happens when the gasket leaks and the farmer tries to stop it by over tightening with a pliers when he should have just replaced the gasket. Do you have the correct screen and gasket? Short bowl is usually different from tall bowl. Diameter is larger for tall bowl.
