Are shims available for sleeves in the 262D engine to get the .002 stand out the manual calls for? Anyone used them?

I have the block decked, then trim the top of the pistons a bit to get the book spec piston stand out.

I would guess, if the counter bore is too deep to get .002 stand out, the counter bore will not be square and true. I would say it should be magnafluxed, rebored and then deck the block for proper standout. Allis used to make or have made, sleeves with thicker shoulders so the you could recut the c'bores without decking the block.

I've heard of shimming them, but I would wonder about the condition of the bores. The ledge the sleeves set on is very narrow. If the block has a rust problem, I would doubt that shims would be very long lived. Also like Charlie says, the sleeve may not set level and true in the block. Much better to have the bores re cut and the block surfaced to get the proper standout. Another consideration is using studs in place of the original bolts. Search for some of the other posts I've made regarding ARP studs and nuts.

The sleeves in the engine I have apart were flush with the block and the block looks good the counter bores look clean very little rust had to take it apart because it was left outside without a muffler and it got water in it and set up, It showed very little wear but four of the pistons broke at the ring lands pushing them out so I planned to put new sleeves and pistons in it I know the farmall H and M use stainless shims to adjust the sleeves was hoping maybe I could use them on this.
