I am hearing these noises as the WD rear wheels get a sudden grip after slipping or as one wheel rides up on snow bank as I am using back blade. The popping is continous as the strain is on them. No popping if just traveling along. Sometimes popping when I reverse. I can't see any movement in the hub lugs..they very tight...no movement observed in the stops on the adjustable bars. Tires are new and I have lowered the pressure for grip and bulged just a bit on ground. No fluid. I've crawled all around these tires looking for some sign of slip..no luck... It could just be the snap coupler making noise as the impliment (blade in this case) moves around under varing load. My WD-45 will make noises sometimes when pulling a 12' disk, quite a load. | Sideways motion on the power adjust rails. Never had the problem on the 45 until I changed the width to transport on a trailer. Made the same sound ever since. Doesn't hurt anything, but very unnerving till you find out what it is. |

| I have this same popping since putting new tires and rims on my 185. -- and yes it is very unnerving. Have been concerned that it might be an unsafe conditon. Only does it under load and wheel on downhill side. |

| I'm with Dave. Have you recently changed the width on the rear end? I changed mine for transport and then went to plowing this fall and my right wheel started making a loud popping noise when I would hit a tough spot. I loosened everything up and repositioned the wheel and then tightened it down and it went away. I think the ecentrics and the rails get worn or the wheel gets unevenly bound sometimes or at least in my case it was. |

| MY WD does it now, and have had others do it as well, the noise is coming from the rails. I rechecked everything, and have come to believe that it has to do with wear and there being a little bit of slop in the ecentrics. Hasn't caused any harm that I am aware of. |

Not too long ago I know you could get the half moon wedges from AGCO that fit in the eccentrics. | The ecentrics are not tightening down against the rail. May be the wedge or the rail is worn. On the 185 which doesnt use a wedge, the rail or clamp is worn. Look for worn spots on the rail, sometimes the wheel can get a little out of round too. Ive take them apart and built up the wedges and the rail where is it worn to fix it. the popping can get awfully loud, make me nevous as I dont want if coming apart. HTH |

| When I changed the width on a WD I had once, I was surprised when I spun the wheels that pieces of hack saw blade fell out. The previous owner had apparently dealt with the slop/rattle by shimming it with pieces of a hack saw blade. It seemed to work fine. Not factory correct, but apparently got the job done. Make sure the locks/stops are in place in case it comes loose and tries to spin when you hit a hard pull. |

Well Thanks Guys....I got a few old hacksaw blades...should last till spring..too much snow and too cold to be doing rail buildup now. I had a hunch that was it but got pretty worried abt it this last time cos I was into some 2-1/2 to 3 feet deep snow...it did it a lot! mayby the wedges where they tighten up are wore a little bit they can be replaced with new ones this wedge is between the bolt and the rail. ------------- a member of hendricks county antique tractor and machinery association club. |

| John, I haven't had my D-14 for very long and have only a chance to drive it for a short time. It has not been driven for at least six/seven year (in a barn), but it too makes noise in reverse and when first starting out in forward motion. Thanks for bringing this item up on the Forum. No chance Papa ... to work on the wheel..been pretty busy here tho with Allis.. Arm pit high snow takes awhile with just a back blade. It sure did a LOT of popping yesterday!!!  ------------- Life is short...Make haste to be kind |
