How hard is it to change a transmission in a 190. This is an early model slant fender 190. Basically we will just be pulling the bad one out and putting the good one in its place. Also have to go remove the good one from the tractor its in. How many hours to remove one? Whats the process?

That job sucks , to put it lightly; the transmission and the rear end housing are all the same , it unbolts at the rear of the POWERDIRECTOR - if you can roll the old one out and roll the good one in it aint so bad , the rear end and tranny are all one housing - lot of labor involved Oldoug had good photos a while back he can tell ya

Treat the platform like a cab and use cab stands so you don't have to remove the platform. There are two big bolts in the front of the platform that have to be loosened so it can pivot. Then there are hydraulic lines and brake linkages and a host of other things. Don't forget to undo the lines to the hydraulic filter. Don't force anything until you are sure everything is disconnected. Pump the fuel out too and remove the tank. Boy the last one I did was in late 1994. Not too bad if you have transmission stands on wheels and wheel jacks to safely remove the rear wheels. They'd be sending flowers if a wheel fell on you. I guess if you leave the wheels on you won't have that worry.

Adam if I remember correctly your 190 is one of the very first 190's like a 1964 model? If so, if your transmission is still the factory installed one it will be very difficult to find the correct transmission to interchange it with. There were several different serial number breaks on transmission stuff in the early days with different fourth gears used and other things like that. The transmission swap isn't so bad you just need to know what you got in both ends of the tractors your gonna swap.

If you are going to swop the complete asy. it should be as simple as roleing one out and the other in. If you are keeping your wheels, use the taper lock hubs from doner on your wheels. MACK
