The idea of the video is the twin sticks and shifting them. The Allis is a bonus!! LOL!!

Wow, that is one nice 'ol truck - and rig!! Pretty nifty shifting. The Allis grader is pretty sharp, too. Just pull the whole outfit into my barn and leave it. I'll gladly give it proper feed and water -- LOL.

Only two sticks....piece of cake to use..
My '58 Willys 4WD pickup had FOUR sticks, plus 2 more for the PTO.
3 speed stick, Overdrive stick, 2 sticks for the 4WD transfer case.
Now that was a real challenge!

That is a real talent to make all those shifts and never touch the clutch pedal. Years ago when the construction company that I worked for was short of staff I had to deliver a pickup to the crew at a job site about 100 miles away and bring back the old Mack B52 and empty lowbed to our yard in the city. The guys gave me a quick course on shifting the 5 plus 4 transmissions and the air brakes. They also gave me the route to take to avoid the weigh scales since legally I shouldn't be driving a semi. The trip went well and I was able to make some shifts without the clutch on the main transmission but with hills and stops and starts in the city I did enough clutch work that my left leg muscles were so stiff the next day or two that I could hardly walk. That was my one and only experience driving a semi or truck with an auxiliary transmission.

that is sweet. Wish I had something to fiddle around with like that. That would be something that I would really like to learn.

I have a 5 X 4 in my White but the Fuller boxes are not syncro in any gear so the double clutching is a must. Once moving one box can be split into direct or over then backshift to direct and up one gear in main, none of it as smooth as that video.

That was very impressive. Have seen those old twin sticks sitting still in shows and such. Never have seen one in action. I'm sure that gentleman has some serious seat time behind the wheel of that old truck. SWEET!

In 1979 Dad went from a 1969 Hendrickson 318 Detroit 16 speed to a new Mack 300 5 speed, he loved it.

my 1st time to drive a semi was in ND in a cab over Freightliner Twin stick Cummins - only had to pull over once goin up a hill, got lost in the gears - down shift was a two handed job - up was usually good with one without the clutch. At night no less. Sittin high, heavy load, dark, tired, etc - made it.

looks like you need to be an octapus to drive one, reminds me of the time backing a wagon in the barn with a JD B no power steering and that stinking hand clutch.

My '97 Jeep TJ had 4 sticks. One for the front axle high range/low range/neutral, one for rear axle high/low/neutral, one for the 5 speed transmission, and one for the cable actuated front locker. It was all for four wheeling, but the fact that all the transfer case gears were synchro made hauling hay wagon trains and other very heavy loads easy for the little jeep. I would go through the 5 tranny gears in low range (4.3:1 under drive), then shift on the fly to high range. I was alot like driving that Mack. I honestly miss that Jeep.

Neat video, have heard the older drivers talk about those twin sticks. I have hard enough time keeping track of two range selector switches. I seldom drive anymore and a lot of our test trucks now run the electronic shift boxes.
