| Can I ask a dumb question: I too live in Michgan (Flint AREA) I have an I40- I was thinking about covers for the sides- but what actually does it accomplish? I thought once warmed up she should be ok. Maybe if stored outside I can see it, and maybe thats the reason- makes sense. I remember the cardboard in front of grill to get heat from your car but no heater on Tractor. I ran my girl yesterday twice and IT WAS FUN - I am new to tractors and still learning. I did notice a little frost on the carb for a few minutes but later it was fine. I was just courious- nice if Allis made a stock cover for the sides that snaped on. Wish I was home today playing in the snow again..Thanks |

The side pannels help keep the engin warm and the driver warm if you look at the back they flare out next to the fenders so when the ratior fan turns it blows warm air on the driver and card board helps keep it warm too. but some tractors wont stay warm without somthing to keep the heat in. ------------- In Search Of: 1958 Allis Chalmers D17 Diesel serial #9643D |

| They call that a comfort cover. It keeps the wind off you and the heat from the motor is like a heater to keep you warmer. It really is nice to have the heat from the motor blowing on you. |

| So do you recommend I put something over grill and sides if I continue to run her in the winter?- I get the idea now about warming the driver- I just thought if side covers were tight to unit - My I40 is all covered with metal panels below steering wheel - it still would not allow any heat to driver- but If you flared out the side covers to the fender then makes perfect sense. Thanks alot... |
