Is their a way to fix play in the front pedestal on a C.  Mine has enough play that the I can turn the wheel from 11 to 1 o'clock with out the front wheels even twitching.  I guess what I wnat to know is if their is a easy way to do it that doesn't cost alot of money.  I can probably live with it considering the tractor will see limited use and probably just be used for cruising around at shows.

Thanks in advance for any help or opinions,
Denis

There is a adjustment screw to help take the play out of the steering box, it has a jam nut. You also might have to replace the steering knucles on the streeing shaft from the steering box.

I made a fix on a c once . The gear in sector i,ll call a rooster comb was worn  bad. I 4/12 in side grinder  to cut teeth down on each end  so i could gear it deeper. I took about all the slack out.

the gear box has a worm gear and a follower. the follower  runs in the worm and it get worn really bad. You can replace it or build it up with weld. That is what I did with mine, I had an extra on, now I just have to install it. I can't get the C into the shop with all of the snow that we have. I'm lookinf to get the D14 in the shop also, as soon as I can. Bob

I fixed mine by the method 'tadams' mentions above... replaced the steering arm/knuckles.

To tell how to fix the play could only be known after you removed the drag link to see if the play was only in the gear box below the steering wheel, in the gear box above the front wheels and or the tie rod ends in the drag link or in all three. Being that bad I would guess that it would be all three. Guessing don't find the problem though. Only checking!
