Good Evening,
On January 15th I had a severe sprain to my left ankle, after 11 days on light duty at work with 1 hour standing restrictions the swelling was so bad they ordered a MRI. Then came the phone call  at 9:30 a.m. this morning to see an orthopedic surgeon today. I was told I might have an Avulsion Fracture where the tendon tears away from the bone. The surgeon took x-rays and review the MRI and determined that I  didn’t have the fracture instead I have two tendons with a class 2 tear (50%). I will hope work lets me still come in or I will have to use up all my sick time. I will be in a full boot up to my knee for about a month and a total of 8 to 12 weeks of recovery.  Please be careful things can change in a blink of an eye.
Danny

Danny, my wife had the same thing happen to her ankle a couple years ago.  She wanted to play soccer again after our second child and she dove right in with no warming up and getting her body conditioned to running again.   Three weeks into it, the tear happened and a boot went on for 2 months.   She reinjured it again this summer playing kickball of all things.   Keep your head up, listen to the docs, and do all of the therapy that they tell you and stay into it.   My wife's ankle still isn't good and she complained to her sister(physical therapist) that it still hurts.   She told her to do exercises on her ankle every night until it got stronger and better.   She did it for two nights and then back to the same old.   I will have to ride her like a drill sargeant, or I am going to have to push her around in a wheelchair.

Danny, sorry about your injury. A tear like that takes longer to heal than a bone fracture. Hope they will let you come to work on light duty.

That is what is called tough love, "drill sergeant."

Everybody here knows how a tractor will bring people together at the strangest times. After the boot was put on they sent me to get set up with physical therapy. I made the comment to the staff and for their families that this fall they are all welcome to come out for a hay rack ride at our place. One of the therapist came up to me and said my husband and I just moved here from Indiana  and my husband is all bummed out because he doesn’t know any tractor events in the area. I gave her a card and told her husband to call me and come to our spring breakfast to learn more. I may have screwed up my ankle but may have found a new tractor friend!

Sorry to hear about your ankle. I tore up my shoulder last spring working on a WD. As everybody says, do what the DR says, and don't push it. I'll have to let you know next time I come down there to the tropics, my little sister lives in Minooka, and have a niece in Plainfield, I'll buy you a cup of coffee.

Danny, following doctors orders and doing the therapy can't be over emphasized. Now that you've found one good thing come of this event, remember there might be more to come. Heal fast. Charlie
