I know this is a stupid question, but a neighbor is selling his 24' flex and 24' rigid headers from his N series combine. I know there is no easy way to hook them up to our L/M series combines, and I know the throat is offset, etc, etc, but has anyone ever seen an N header on an L combine? Is it even possible? They are both in good shape with wobble boxes, good guards, sickles, reel bats, etc, that we decided to buy them for parts for our 20' L series headers if nothing else, but my mind got to thinking about what ifs... In some of our poor wheat (like we have had the last few years) I know our late L2s would handle 24'. Also, does anyone know the approximate weight of the headers? The neighbor has a fork lift, but I am trying to figure out how I can get them off the trailer after I get them home. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

many of the extra wide heads are intentionally mounted off to the side to allow unloading auger extra reach. The N series heads would be offset the wrong way, though. The N heads probably have hydraulic systems on them to run the reel, would that cause any problems? I would think not, but adjusting the reel speed might take some modules from an N or something? Interesting idea, it would be fun to see it work.

John Wilkerson used to convert the 15 foot series 3 heads for R series to fit on F3 combines. I cannot see why they won't work, just take a little time to sort out all the ways to make the different systems function right. Unload auger length might become a challenge as running a 22' and even the 830 hugger on my R52 without an extended auger gets interesting with the wrong person in the grain buggy.

I dont know ow the older heads are set up, but the newer ones are set up for both off-set or center mount. Theres cover plates and a wide mounting area.

After we got the headers home and did some side to side comparisons I dont think there is any decent way to make it work. It could be done, maybe, with a lot of work and a lot of welding rod and acetylene, but it ain't gonna be easy. The throat for out L's are 6 inches wider than the headers have, which really surprised me, and so that throws the rest of the plan from there. Thanks for the thoughts!

we put a 17.5' 1020 IH head on one of our G dry bean specials.so we could direct cut navy & black beans. Befor we bought it we were really cosidering a 18' Gleanor head ,500 series but the initial investment scared us. Don't be affraid to use your imagination the torch and the welder. Your only problem might be to get the auto head height to talk to the combine. but knowing Gleanor just make a new conection and you will be fine.

With some work it should fit. Will have to make a adaptor. I put a 215 JD grain head on my F2. MACK

The hydralic reel has the pump on the head and attaches to the right side shaft. If I remeber right the electrical is on the right side of the series 2 heads and should hook right up. If series 3 then you can make work but can only run off one set of the springs.
