looking at a new idea double frame planter measures 16' 6" wide by 11' , 100 miles away, 6 row planter. thats with the tongue off. It doesn't look like I could pick it up and load it with a backhoe its to wide (double frame) Wish I had a slide axel trailer for planters.

16' 6" wide should pull on most roads. I looked at an 8 row wide once, non folding. At least 24' wide and it was 40 miles from home. I scouted country roads, but found narrow bridges more like 18 or 20 and the only road with enough width and wide shoulders was US-30, two lane with way too much traffic to suit dragging that planter home. It was one that Deere sold with the Donahue trailer for hauling from field to field. Around here, I think I could find a route most anywere to pull 16' 6" down gravel roads without running into bridges too narrow but I'd want to check that route carefully with a tape measure before trying. The rub with trailering at 11' wide it needs a permit in most states. But doesn't need a permit as a farm implement on its own wheels though wider. Take the drive chains off the wheel sprockets before you start and be sure the tires have a good pressure and take your time. I pulled a 6 row narrow more than 60 miles once on a mix of paved county and gravel county roads. I did have to watch out for mail boxes and oncomming traffic and narrow bridges, but I didn't plan that route out ahead of time. I had to cross a river that limited my crossing possibilities. Its possible to tow. It would be smart to have escorts with radio communication to block traffic at bridges if the bridges were long and the traffic more than occasional. Gerald J. |

I bought a 15' no till at a sale it measured 16' 6" wide about 50 miles away took me three hrs. to get it home. this trip would take at least 6 I think more because there is several large towns to go around.

I pulled a 42 foot 1400 chisilvator 180 miles behind my 3/4 ton truck. I would hook on and pull it home. By the time you load it and unload it ,you could be 1/2 way there.

Dad had hitch behind the gooseneck, load the 200 on the trailer and hook the 6-30 New-Idea planter behind that and go 30 miles to the rented place. That would make you pucker up.

I pulled a allis no till 15ft wide or so home 80 miles. I did it on sunday morning in the morning. Just know the roads you have to travel and have someone trail you to prevent folks from passing you when they shouldnt and plan a few stops to let folks pass. ------------- 160 CA 920diesel 5020 HD-3 |

I pulled this guy home 90 miles, the last 20 on the interstate during rush hour traffic, little pucker factor there but made it home.
 Got it home and noticed this sticker....was pulling it 50mph on the freeway....

| My son bought a used 12 row corn planter Black Machine that folds to a 13 row soybean planter. He pulled it behind a 1 ton pickup almost 100 miles. It was all the pickup could handle. |

| shucks..i drove a gleaner combine with a 30 ft header on it 42 miles on the highway and thru a couple towns, teee'd off a few drivers but made it o-k! wtach out for them power poles! |
