Have a WD with possible dirty carb. When running the tractor, it will stall out like its starving for gas every once in awhile. I choke it, and it revs back up to normal. Tank is clean, my guess is its the carb.

Should I try to dismantle and clean the carb? How big of a job is this?

How expensive is it to have it professionally rebuilt?

My garden tractors have a similar problm. I've went through the tank, lines and carb and it still won't run at half throttle for too long before it runs out of gas. Frustrating.

Don. sounds more like your filter might have a bit of dirt in it. Dirt gets stuck in line just above the shut-off valve, drain your tank and take the filter off and remove the shut-off valve and check to see if it's clear. (You might try taking the sediment bowl off first and turn fuel on, you should get a good steady flow). If that isn't the problem and you think it is the carb I might have the kit you need..what I have is for a Zenith 61 and 161 series carb. It's not that hard to rebuild. John

hadthe same problem with my wd .i would run it half throttle then open power jet screw so it ran rich,choke it quickly andreset jet screw. as it turned out the problem was with the fuel filter screen.new screen and gasket,been good since.

Had a similar problem with my D17. I had recently put on a new gas tank cap. The old one was loose and it rattled around, basically it didn't seem to seal well.

The new cap was airtight! The tractor would run for a few minutes then die. When I removed the fuel line at the carb, no fuel came out. I loosened the gas tank cap and I heard air rush in. Fuel came out of the fuel line immediately. Now I just loosen the cap whenever I use it.

I've also rebuilt the carb. It's pretty easy. It takes more time to remove and reinstall the carb than it does to actually take the carb apart and replace the things in the rebuild kit.

make sure sediment bowl is clear of debris, remove plug at bottom of carb do you have a steady flow of gas? if yes then remove and clean out carb not to bad of job. go to auto parts store and buy some aerosol cans of Carb cleaner, just make sure you have a nice clean work space and remember where the pieces went. (not too bad though) squirt through all the holes inside of the carb and squirt everything else that needs to be cleaned with the carb cleaner. then reassemble. some times a new Carb kit is required then it requires a little more talent to repair. But a simple cleaning is not too bad.
