| I'm planning on putting new pad on my brakes bands but I can't figure out how to get them out after I knock the pins out. The opening looks to small and want to be able to get them out with out takeing the rear end apart. |

You have to pull one end of the band out so that the whole thing rotates around the brake drum. The bottom pivot pin is usually rusted and there's always a bunch of mouse nest material/grease/dirt, so it takes a bit of patience. Clean as much of that junk as you can out of the hole underneath the brake housing and try to pull and rotate it out from the top. I've found a pry bar is very helpful. So far all of the bands I've pulled out have needed complete replacement, but hopefully yours isn't so bad.

I hooked my hyd. shop hoist to one end with some wire and pulled it out. The bands were in bad shape,rusted. Put in new ones. Sure feels good to have brakes !!! ------------- 1949 B 3930 Ford- Have owned other Orange ,green,red,yellow,dark green tractors and equipment. |

You have to take the fender and the brace piece off of the tractor before you can get at the brakes. By the sound of your post, I think you just took the brake cover off. It needs to look like wjohn's picture before you can get them out. | I always try to pull the end with the threaded hole out first. If you don't have it cleaned out enough around the band, you will have a heckuva time getting it out. Mine was filled so much that I actually stretched my band pulling it out. I use an air nozzle with a piece of brake line soldered on the end to get down inside that cavity. It takes a lot of patience, but once you get the other end down around the "mouse hole" I use my finger to push on the end while I pull the other end. If it is all clean, it will come right out. |

It was said on an earlier post that it would be wise to hook a fairly heavy wire to the end of the brake shoes that is being drawn around the brake wheel. You can use this wire to assist in pulling the new bands around the brake wheel. Replacing the brakes was one of the toughest jobs on my favorate. In fact, we had a favorate customer who used B's. He used them amoung other chores to pull a spray rig. You can just imagine how rusted the brake bands were. It was funny but if we knew one of his units was coming to the shop for a brake job everyone always looked for another outside job.
Take good care of my favorate. After you get through this most of the rest is a snap.

| The tires on my B are off rights and tyhe tractor is on blocks and when I saw the covers that are placed on the end i may be able to get them off and clean through those opening. |
