What is the difference in a WD45 gas and diesel PTO system?

I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but a gas is PTO rated at the same speed as a diesel, 548 and 549 PTO RPM. The engine speed for rated HP on a gas is 1400 while the diesel is 1625, the spcs on the engine speed may well be different, just going from memory but there is a couple hundred RPM split between the two. I know the ring and pinion is different but am wondering about the PTO.

Is the PTO gear the only difference? Or is there a different gear in the transmission ?

Cant help you with the upper gear question but besides the gearing differances the diesel drop housing is also differant as is the rear bearing housing. You cannot simply install the deisel ratio gears on a gas drop housing,, if you were going there. You can get away with a gasoline rear bearing housing if your shaft or gear box stub has a bit of wear.
