This past November I bought a rebuilt Marvel Carburetor for my B   on E-Bay for $175.00 plus shipping from a  man in California that claims to have 30 years of carb expereince.  I was originally impressed with the way it looked.  I painted and installed it and found after running my tractor that it was a leaking gas out of the drain plug and out of two of the screws that hold the top and bottom together. I called the man and he said he would send me a replacement one.  Two weeks go by, no carb, and no word from him.  I called and he said he didn't have  a decent core to rebuild for me. I felt it didn't take him two weeks to determine that so I told him I would send it back for a full refund.  He wanted me to send it back along with my original carb for him to rebuld that one.  I didn't want to do that and glad I didn't do that now, and just wanted my refund.  So I sent it back and checked my postal delivery confirmation which told me it was delivered back to him on 12/22. I e-mailed him thereafter asking him to refund my money.  He e-mailed me back and said he was away for the holidays, then rain storms prevented him getting back home to check his mail box, then the dog was sick on the trip home so that also delayed it.  He said to be patient and will take care of it when they got back.  Well, they got back and claim they never got the carb.  Don't try calling him as you have to go thru a screening to get through to discuss anything.  The time had elasped with E-Bay so I couldn't put a claim in.  Somehow he was able to put another carb like the one I needed on E-Bay which is currently on now.  How did he have time to rebuilt it while he was away.  I just find it hard to believe that he never received the carburetor back since the post office said it was delivered to him.  I guess I learned my lesson and next time I will rebuild it my self and report any problems to E-Bay at once.  I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt and not drag E-bay into it.   So much for being patient and trusting but that's my nature.
Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

I would notify the USPS about fraud.  I hope you have all of your correspondence.  You would be amazed what they will do if fraud is involved !!  You might want to notify the rip-off artist that you intend to do this and see what he responds with.  Good Luck!!

Fred, did you use Paypal to pay for it.   Even after the 60 days are up for positive and negative feedback, paypal will still help you if you were screwed over.   And yes, post his handle so we all know.   Nothing worse then a deadbeat scammer.

I bought a marvel carboratur from a guy on E-bay for my D-15 It was  cleaned inside and out, new gasket and painted for $60.00. I bolted it onto the engine and it started right up. Now if I could only get my 12 V generator problem resolved with Valu-Built, I be OK. Bob

bummer. I guess with everything I've gotten off of ebay, I've gotten lucky. Thank goodness for feedback. I'll go through 1500+ just to find that one negative to see what was said. From my normal rounds of searches on ebay I'm guessing his user is 4classydesign?

Reeseholler has it right.  That's who it was 4classydesign
What else could I say. He's in California and we're here on the east coast so I can't even shake my fist at him!  I'll check Pay Pal and see if there's anything that could be done.  Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

So if that is the guy's name on ebay we all should start sending him questions on his items and asking when he is going to send fred his money back.

Dang Fred, it's bad to hear you got swindled. The only advice I have is to keep purchases from people you don't know at a minimal level, and to make larger purchases from people you know and trust, human nature being what it is. Badmouthing this guy on ebay could backfire.

Fred - I looked at the guy's feedback on eBay and it doesn't look shabby....What kind of delivery confirmation did you get?  Did someone have to sign for it or was it a receipt simply that they set in the mailbox or by the front door?  (that brings to mind the return address - PO box or home address?)  If they people truly were away and the post office left at their house it may have developed "legs" and walked off....it is California, lol.  I've never bought from this guy but yes I have seen his listings.  I'm sorry you've had an issue but wanted to point out given the circumstances you describe the guy could be telling the truth.  If someone swiped the box he's probably sitting on the other end thinking he's being scammed...   Mike

I had a similar thing happen a while ago. Because I had a name and address to send the money, I looked up his phone number on the 'net and gave him a call. I talked to the man's wife, but once I was able to get a hold of them, the issue was resolved.

Good luck!

Fred, in the interest of being fair and trying to help, I sent this guy a message.  He and his wife have 100% positive feedback with over 1000 deals so I think there should be some way for him to make your deal right.  If he does not, then he gets a bad reputation and feedback which IS A BIG DEAL on EBAY.  I have over 400 transactions buying and selling stuff for my hobbies and want to keep my 100% positive feedback.  I will not deal with anyone that has shady comments.

Interestingly,  I also bought a carb from him for my B and it was perfect. That, coupled with his good history made me think he should get moving towards taking care of you.  With my carb, it DID take him a longer than I thought it would to send it but it was very nice and works great.  In the message I sent him via EBAY, I told him to take a look at our forum as he gets a reputation, either good or bad.  Hope it helps.  Hate to see either one of you unhappy if there is a way to resolve it.   If he really is a decent guy and not trying to duck you, he needs to do the right thing.    Good Luck.
