It needs to be a better picture. I got to your photobucket album but the picture isn't good enough to blow up. It could be a steam pressure gauge?? | Just a shot in the dark, would definitely be able to tell with a larger picture, but it appears to be a Steam Pressure Gauge from a Factory boiler or piece of machinery. |

I think the gauge units must be "Hg, (inches Mercury)
It would be hard to get 30 psi vacuum on earth where atmosphere is about 14.5 psi
What I cant figure out is how you would get negetive pressure on exhaust ?

Probably pressure or vacuum at the steam exhaust of a steam engine or turbine into a steam condenser. A steam condenser tends to pull a vacuum on the engine or turbine when its working right condensing steam and that's more pressure drop across the engine or turbine to extract more hp from that machine. You want to see the power of condensing steam, take a metal can with screw on cap, like a solvent can, put in about 1/8th can of water, put it on a stove or hot plate and bring that water to a boil. Take it off the heat, screw the cap on tight and let it cool. You'll need oven mittens to do that safely. Let it cool. The condensation will pull a vacuum to the point the can will be crushed down to the volume of the water it started with. Gerald J. |
