How is the starter drive "attached" to the armature shaft on a Model G's starter?

I'm trying to figure out how to remove the starter drive and it isn't obvious to me how to proceed.

Just in case anyone was wondering what I was referring to...  Here's the item I'm trying to remove from the armature shaft.

Don't know but I'd try loosening the outer spring bolt. I think it might run into the shaft.

Don't know about an allis, but on an ih remove the spring bolts and will slide off.

Ahhhh...

A picture truely is worth a thousand words!

Thanks guys!  I'm getting ready to go to work - flying to Frankfurt, Germany and I should be back on Monday evening.  I'm too cleaned up to go to the shop and check this out but I do seem to recall some sort of lock on the bolts.

More later.

Merry Christmas to you Joe!

This thing is another medical school cadaver for me to play with.  Just trying to learn some stuff without teariing up anything valuable.

Got to trot!

Best regards,

I think the outer bolt will be the anchor, the inner one has to move with the spring to allow the spring to give and soften the impact of the gears.

I think Gerald J. is right. Here's what they look like off the starter.  This is from E-Bay.

Thanks for the thoughtful posts!

Well - Made it out of Atlanta on Christmas Day before the snow hit.  It was raining and the temperature was in the high 30's when Delta 14 Heavy pushed back from the gate at the start of her journey to Frankfurt, Germany.  Members of the crew that lived north of Atlanta told me that it was snowing when they left home to report for the trip.  Checked the Atlanta Airport weather as we flew over New York and the airport was getting snow at that point.  I got back last night - left a few folks in Frankfurt, Germany because the New York flight had canceled and we didn't have room for the overflow.  Despite all the weather excitment, the trip went pretty well with a minimum of impact on me so...

Today I went to my shop and removed the Starter Drive.  The outer bolt on the spring does seem to be the key.  That bolt has an extra bit of unthreaded length on the end that engages a hole in the armature shaft.  I thought the entire Starter Drive would come off as one piece but it came off in sections.

Some pictures follow.
