has any one ever tried to make one could you use a gas head and put pencil inj in it the thing i am not sure of is if you could get enough compression i believe it should have a dished piston with the rise in the center to promote air swirl

I wondered the same thing but holding the injector in might be a different story. I was told Allis messed with DI on them and made a couple heads but you would never find them if they did. I would say for the most horse would be to turbo a gasser. If you have tons of $$$ have one made.

looking to make a usable diesel have many 262 gas engines to use for a prototype

When you compare a gas or old Lanova style diesel to a newer direct injected diesel is the direct inject pistons have typically a cone shaped dish in them. If there isn't a dish to spray the fuel into, it will end up hitting the cyl walls washing the oil off and dilluting the engine oil.

Don't let that stop you. We'll all be interested to see what you come up with.

I did see one at the Harvey plant back in 75 or 6.  they went with the 4.33 instead because of common parts and stronger bottom end and rods per Terry Wood, engineer.

I saw a 262 converted with gas head, customer at Jeanerette LA, J&L Honiron Engineering had 262 eng in pickup. Think he said conpression was too high and had to cut piston? don't remember details. Is th gas head flat like D17  2800?  He had head spark plug holes bored and had inserts machined to fit in that simulated 2800 head bores. He had a rail welded at a 45 degree  to hold the injecters.  Again all this is memory 35 yrs or so ago.  Customer put engine in, and drove to Texas.  He had more guts than I.  I ask him about fuel milage and he said not so good. Had to work on tranny / rear end ratio.    Just some ramblin memories of AC travels..

Id say you would shorten the life of the sleeve counterbore in the eng block and have the same head gasket problems or worse.  the burn rate would be faster and higher pressure.  Just my thought.  Dont let that stop ya though!!!!!!!!

Turbo a gasser.... I'm thinking some one has done that  already and has photos ? I  find a 262 gas turbo'd, intercooled interesting.

I started to build one, as I remember a piston from a ford diesel will work.
