I have to purchase a replacement gas tank for my 45 Allis B.  The style I currently have is the type with the strap on the narrow end.  I have found a few places to get used replacement tanks, but most of them are showing the type of tank with a bracket on the bottom that bolts to the tool box.

My question is - Can I purchase either style?  Are they interchangeable, or do I have to stick with the "strap-type" hold down?

You can buy whatever you want, but the rear strap type is correct for your year tractor.

Glenn,

My 45 does have the strap and my 41 is strapless. Do you know if the 41 would be original ?  the toolbox has no strap either

if you dont have a strap, i think you will find two horizontal bolts holding the back end to the top of the tool box... one one each side.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Thanks guys...

Seems like the strapless tanks are easier to come by for some reason.

A 41 would have  the strapless tank.  I have a 41 and a 42 that both originally had the strapless tank.  Many were changed to the strap tanks as the strapless tanks would begin to leak where the bracked connected to the tank. Both of mine have been change to the starp tanks.

The reason there are more strapless tanks is, because other than 1950, the biggest year of the B was 1939. Between 1938 - 1940, about 1/3 of all B's were built.
