Plans to restore the WD45 this summer in honor of my Grandpa. This is list of what I'm sure I need, and what I think it should cost. What I need from you guys are tips and tricks with just about any info you have, as well as best places and cheapest prices for parts. I also need help with finding the closest to original Decals and paint. What paints already have additives? Whats the best primer? What's the best paint? Are my prices in the correct range? I would like to start at the end of snow season and finish by the end of summer. I would also like to get this tractor as close to original as possible, without going overboard. Also, there are some prices I haven't got the slightest clue on, which I need help with also. Lucas

paint really depends. I called about PPG and the guy told me 400 for a gallon. it depends if you want a urethane or enamel with clear coat. Since I found out that the same PPG color that people say is close is also the same code for a chrysler color and you could get that from a dodge dealer. Maybe somebody else can help me out with the Allis/ chrysler cross. Paint really depends. I found PPG online for 100 a gallon and the local guy quoted me 400. Big difference

On average of how many gallons does it take, assuming that it is done right?

I have persian orange 1 in an acrylic enamel and a polyurethane. the problem is i can't ship the polyurethane. the acrylic enamel sells for $90.00 plus shipping. this color matches the 60080 code number which is considered the closest match to the original. this paint also should have a hardener added to it.

Here is a link to my site where I have the gasket so you can download it. Download the file print it at 100% size cut out, trace it on .004 thick gasket material and cut it out. Should save you a couple bucks.

If you are going for a restore why not replace both tie rods (4 ends) and repack both lift cylinders in stead of one? Chances are they all need done and better to do it before you paint.

Only plan to replace one tie rod because the right side was replaced 3 years ago. The left side is bent and has been for as long as I can remember. As I recall, grandpa used to skid logs and pile brush with it when we had the loader with the blade on it, and at one point it probably hooked in a small tree.

I just repacked my cylinders and it cost me less than $15.00 . tubes are around $40.00 to $50.00 .If you plan on replacing PTO gasket, then the two oil seals will run about $25.00 to $30.00 . The one for the ingage lever was $14.00, just replaced that when I did the cylinders. HTH.

Lucas, Can help you with all the hardware items you might need to restore the tractor. Not a paint guy, others on here can help with that. I'am about 75 mile from you and can help with most questions you might have. David

For the paint I used PPG Persian Orange #2 single stage poly. I ended up needing two gallons to get the job done. I lost a lot paint spraying the parts before assembly but there are so many blind spots I couldn't see any other way to get everything completely painted. After I got the tractor back together I went over it all again and was very happy. For primer I used two PPG Epoxy kits after sand blasting everything to bare metal.

If you want original as much as possible, then you most likely don't want a 16x28 rim. The WD-45 used a 13x28 rim for a 14.9 x 28 tire. You can buy bigger rims, but they would most likely be for a 170 or 180.
