Thanks for the replys about why the battery keeps draining.  What type or what am I looking for to install that diode on the exciter circuit?

Basically anything good for 50V PIV, 3 Amps will do. I've used 1N5406 for years as i have couple hundred of them in the parts bin.....sigh...one day I have to clean up !

If you have a local Radio Shack in your town, roll in and ask em' for a 276-1101 (50V 1 amp) diode. Make sure you install it with the grey stripe (Cathode) facing the Alternator.
That should take care of that problem.....
