I have a '39 b that runs very well but the block has been welded after a rod went through the side. It has 12.4/11x24 tires which I would like to use on my wc. It has an adjustable wide front which I could sell. It has one rivited wheel/hub that I need for my '38 b. I also could use the traney on a C that has a noise in it. The sheet metal is rough but not terrible. The engine is electric start with gen bosses. The starter is bad. It has an ugly homemade 3pt. I have a late '38 b that I plan on restoring and I could use lots of parts off of it. I've never parted one out and can't decide what to do. The motor was rebuilt when the block was welded and it runs good but the weld is ugly and not ac original. I have an extra block but no main caps. Thanks for any input.

With all the parts that you are going to save an use and the rest you can sell I would say the '39 is now an organ donor.

You've certainly convinced me that it is a parts tractor, therefore, by the authority vested in me (which is none) I am giving you permission to go ahead and do what you want with it, without any repercussions.

Did 39's come with electric start?   I thought it was 40 that electric start was an option so it sounds to me that the motor was changed out.   If it has a good early gas tank, you may want to hold onto that as the rear mount? changed and the earlier ones are harder to find in good shape and can fetch a good penny.   I bought a 39 once that the engine was tight and it was in pieces only because I wanted the cultivators that came with it for my 40 B.  I think I paid 300 for the whole thing, and I got 250 for the gas tank alone on ebay.
I wouldnt' feel bad parting it out, but make sure you keep a good spare of everything that you can, as it always seems that I sell something and then a year or two later, something else on another tractor takes a crap and then I wish I would have kept it on the shelf.    Then again, the parts I have on the shelf have been sitting there for years and I never seem to need them.   Oh well.

Always remember this though: If It's got a frame, It can be restored.

I'd rather see thisone parted out than some perfect tractor like I've been seeing lately.

Yes the electric start was added the tool box is a crank start that has been cut for a battery box and it does have the old type gas tank but I will use it on my 38 because it's very clean and has never rusted. It has a distributer on it that I put on it. It also has one 5 bolt rear hub with b splines inside and a flat b center instead of a dish center like a c. It has a electric start torque tube.

I agree. Even though I'm partial to '39 B's I think it sounds like it's far enough from original that it might be better off used to restore your '38.

It's a late '38 b I'm wanting to restore. I've been told the rivited hubs were original on a late 38 is this true?

Thad, here is a link to a previous thread talking about the riveted hubs, and the rear wheel differences.

You know, I have trouble "parting out" any running tractor, especially a B.  Remember, they don't make them anymore.  Any one lost is one lost forever never to be replaced.
However, I cannot tell anyone what to do with their property.
Good Luck!

Sounds like it's more of something other than a B with a 39 serial number. They get that way over time with several owners. Not much difference in a late 38 and a 39 when new.

The rivited hub/rim ran from '38 (#9019-11799) to '39 (11800-26524).

I'm with Bill on having trouble parting out a running tractor. I once bought several Wisconsin AK series engines for parts. Next thing I know, more parts show up cheap and now I have 8 of them that run good. I think I'm down to just a good used crank and a flywheel housing...
