I don't think I've ever read anything about making a power steering unit from off the shelf parts. Why couldn't I add a torque generator and an automotive style power steering pump ran off the crank? Is there something I'm missing as to why people don't do this? $300 in new parts and an old pump laying around would seem like a cheap way to go vs. the factor or aftermarket setups designed for the tractor.

Since you've only been here since 6/19/10, I'd say you missed it.It can and has been done.

Almost any pump will work with the Charlynn torque generator. The Charlynn pump is also known as an Eaton pump and was common on Ford and Chrysler cars in the 50's and 60's.
