Subject: Setting up 2 way Plow on C questions

Hello,

Here is the two way plow my Dad is setting up on a AC C.

Question 1.  On one plow, the bracket is for hydraulic and the other plow is for a manual lift.  Is there any value to the manual lift bracket?  We are thinking of converting the manual to a hydraulic bracket with the Welder/torch if there isn't anything special about the manual bracket?

Question 2.  We are missing the hand lever depth control assembly.  We have one, but it is for a B and have found that isn't right.  Anyone have one for sale?  We are also needing the bracket for the rear of the tractor as the one on it now is for a cultivator we think.

Question 3.  Missing hydraulic rams for the tractor (2).  Are these special to the C? if not, which ones are compatible?

Thanks

The plow depth is controlled by your right hand cultivator lever. and the plow lift connectes to the cultivator rockshaft. I can't get any pictures till spring it all under snow.

Looks like you have what you need to mount the two way plow and make it hydrallic.  If you do not have the rams you will need to purchase a RH ram, LH ram and two way valve hookup.  I can tell you how much they cost in 1960 form Pop's price book but getting them now I don't know.  Don't forget to contact the Supply Companies on this site.  They may well have what you need.  Also, don't forget e-bay.  You can find almost anything there.
We sold a lot of C's with two way plows and found they worked very well.
You have a very nice looking C there.  Thanks for taking such good care of itl
Good Luck!

The first thing you need to do is to find a manual for the 1 bottom, 2 way plows for the B and C.  It will show you everything you need.  It looks to me like you are close to having what you need with the exception of the proper lift linkage and the the 2 hydraulic cylinders and switching valve.  I have installed and used one of these plows and without a manual even the mechanically talented can stand there and scratch they're head.  As to the hydraulic or manual lift all the plows are the same it's just the brackets that bolt to the tractor that decide which you have, and everything I see on your tractor leads me to believe that you are set up for hydraulic.

Hi Darrell,

We have the manual.  Thanks to a gracious forum member.

It sounds like the rockshaft on the back of the C is the same for cultivator or plow?  If so, that is covered.

We are missing the linkage then that runs from the right hand lever to the front of the plow for depth control.  Would be interested if someone had this for sale.

For the brackets, we have one of each, manual and hydraulic now.  Was going to remake the manual one over into a hydraulic one of no special value to it as it was.  Didn't want to weld up one if they are rare.

For the hydraulics, the tractor has the two way valve on it now, just missing the rams.

Thanks

I have used these plows for years.  You are fotrunate in that you have a late Model C with the split  lift shaft.  I don't rememer any difference between a lift bracket for a manual lift and one for hydraulic lift.  I think your left bracket is for a one piece rock shaft rather than a split shaft.  I believe you can adapt the one you have without too much work.
There is only one lift shaft, the same is used for the plows and the cultivators.  Your depth control lever is for a B,  but I believe it will work on you C plows.  The lever for the C is a little handier to use.  The plows still have paint on them.  I do not believe they has seen much use.  The "wings on your plows need adjustment.  Hope that all of this helps.

These are not the best plows in the world, but work good in light soils.  With the hydraulic lift, they are handy to use, especially with the narror front C.

You will have to remove  the belt pulley for the left hand plow to raise.
