I am trying to replace the U joint on my 172 AC mower. I can not get that old one out. I have got it off of one side, but cannot get it off of the other. any suggestions? I may have to torch it out. I am having a hard time getting it to move one way or another. And yes, the snap rings have been removed.  Dave

I like to have some extra weight for some stuff,if you can have a helper hold a sledge against the other side of the yoke to keep it from dumping your energy back into the gearbox or drive or whatever that can sometimes help.

Otherwise I'd say heating a little with a torch if you have it will probably work.

Dave, I am not sure on AC machines but some car and truck ujoints have a wax/plastic type seal/pin to help hold them and you have to heat the cap area to melt it. Even though it is a wax/plastic "pin", it is hard enough that you cannot drive the cap out without melting the "pin".
