PAI parts have some thread inserts available, hard steel sleve instead of the heli-coil type.  A better fix, but it requires more room, you'll have to drill and tap the hole in the block to install either type, but the insert will require a larger hole than the heli-coil type

Local auto parts may be a quick source for the heli-coil kit you need.

I'll recommend using the head, bolted in place, to act as a guide for the drill.  Tubing or shim stock can be used to help take up any cleance between the drill and the hole in the head.  This helps keep everything lined up.

If you can get one big enough, go with a Time-Sert. That's what we use on Northstar Cadillacs. Only once have I ever replaced head gaskets and not pulled the threads out going back together.

I did one in college many, many, many years ago and we were able to just set a good drill press alongside the tractor and the chuck would just reach the hole in the block that had no threads......just make sure the tractor is level front/back and side to side.

I would think a magnet based drill from the tool rental place would work well.
