It sounds like maybe when the shift fork was replaced a piece or two of the interlock hardware between the shift rails didn't get re-installed. Does the shifter feel like anything is trying to hold it in gear when you engage fourth gear? There should be a spring loaded pin that engages in a groove in the rail.

If the fork was worn, that tells me that the fork has been trying to keep it in gear but the couppler and gear is worn.   MACK

There won't be noticeable wear on the gear itself. It would be on the splines that the coupler engages and the coupler itself will wear which cannot be seen while in the tractor. I would check into the possibility of the detent or spring missing first.

Ours won't stay in high gear, I usually when going down the road keep my foot in front of the shifter so it don't fall out. Now it stays in 4th gear unless going down a hill with a load pushing it will jump out. Also when you shift shift to neutral and let out on the clutch it tries, and sometimes succeeds, to fall into 4th gear on its own. So what could be causing this?
