| We just got a 1959 D14. I'm ready to give it an oil change for the first time. I have a Fram C159 oil filter. Looks like it's packed with cotton. I want to know how much oil to use. I purchased 5w30. . Are there any tips that I need to know? I'm new to this, so any help is appreciated. Thanks |

| Got a '59 also, papastanh. Serial #21089. Maybe yours is close by! I'm in upstate NY and have always used 10W30 with no problem and the C159 Fram's one of the most popular filters for our tractors. Just changed oil and filter the other day and as always, it took just a bit under 4 qts. Following the manual and advice from the forum here, before sliding the new filter with gasket onto the post, pour a spoonful or two of oil into the filter (hole in the center). Then work the filter down onto the post with a slight back and forth twist and hand tighten it. Rather than over fill, I usually put about 3.5 quarts in and bring it up to the fill line over the next few hours (or days). Some have said it's not a bad idea to have a fresh gasket or two for the drain plug, just in case. although I haven't needed one. And uh, one tip from experience...if using a funnel to send the waste oil into a container, be sure that the funnel spout is big enough to accommodate the flow! You learn. Good luck! |

Along with knowing about the stem that goes up in the filter, make sure the old gasket comes off with the filter. 2 gaskets don't work better than 1. LOL

| Hey C Tucker, About how long is this stem you refer to that goes into the filter? The filter that came off had an inverted dome inside, with a hole in the center, but it did not appear any object penatrated it. LOL on the double gastket |

Read this older post. Don't run the tractor without the tube. You will not have proper oil pressure. | Thanks C Tucker, I looked at the link, but that was referring to a Model B. Is this the same sort of tube for my D-14? I will look further at the detail of the base inwhich the filter screws into for any signs of attaching point for this post in question. Thanks |

| The filter base has a 1/4" hole in the center and the tube pushes into that hole and moves the oil to the top of the filter and then it runs down through the filter into the filter base. Bob |
