I am looking for a ball valve to put on my WD to shut off flow to my freeman loader. I am doing this so I can run my rear lift arms independent. The best I can find is a brass 600psi valve. Will this valve work or should I look for something with a higher rating? I am surprised how difficult it is to find these. As always, your advice is very much appreciated!

DON'T use a 600 psi ball valve on a 3500 psi system. There are many places to buy diverter valves made just for that situation. I came across a 3 way valve years ago. I ran a pressure line in from the pump and blocked all other ports on the pump. I hooked the loader to one output, the lift arms to another and the remote line is hooked to the 3rd. I push the lever forward and run the loader. Pull it all the way back to use the lift arms and center it to run the remote.

With my set up I can have the blade on the back and the loader on the front and run them independently of each other. If you go the ball valve route, buy 2 of them so you can have pressure to the loader and hold the the lift arms up or visa versa. You will wonder how you got along without it.

Most of the selector valves are rated 2000 or 2500 psi. Is that suitable for a WD's pump? Could I get by with one of these since I don't lift heavy loads?

You can buy a selector valve that has a handel so you can switch for which job you want to do. MACK

I had a plumbing buddy of mine get me a 3000 psi WOG (water/oil/gas) valve. Think my cost was around $20. I've got it set up so the loader is on it and the lift arms work all the time. I'd be curious to see a picture of a 3 way setup to hold the lift arms and have the loader.

I put one of these on my WD quite a few years ago; picked it up at Central Tractor;
TSC still sells them. Works really well. When I lift my bucket to the point I want it, I switch the valve and the loader stays right there while I'm operating the back blade. Then.....I raise the blade, switch the valve again and the back blade remains up as I use the loader. I think it was only about $45.00 back when I bought mine.

If you order one make sure you get the right thread on the fittings. I didn't and had to add couplers. Works great! I can use either as I choose to. Mike

Opps I don't think it was the threads but I think the connections were different. Make sure they connect to standard hydraulic hoses.

Back in 58 when we got a new loader on the WD45, the AC dealer put on an ordenery brass water shutoff valve for the loader. Never had any trouble from it, however they were 2or 3 times thicker than they are today. Would not use todays cheap imports.

I found a couple different styles of #3000 plus on ebay before. I got enough for all the tractors I will ever buy.

Find a valve for Sec 80 service , or hyd service, can be a diverter valve with just push pull or lever type. The plumbing valves my work for a while but when they fail what results or dammage to self or others may result is not worth the risk.

The selector valve that Brian put a link to would work fine for loader and lift arms. If your remote is connected to the lift arms it would work like original. Lift arms come up, then remote would. I wouldn't worry about the 2500lbs rating at all. My valve just has one extra out port and a 3 position handle. I don't know if anybody makes one like it anymore.

I put 2 power beyond kits on our John Deere 4450 to run the vac. and fertalizer augers on our planter, I wanted a way to shut them off easy and didn't want to break the bank to do it. FOr about $65 I used a 1/4 turn "ball valve". I just ordered them from a hyd supply outfit. The brand name of the ball valve is Apollo, and I think the rating is 3000 psi. and you can get them with normal 1/2" pipe thread.
