Doing a roundabout search based on oil filters, it appears to me it would be the following Gleaners from 1960-mid-1960 had diesel 262's:
  • A
  • B
  • C
  • E
Can someone confirm this?  When were the Series II of the some of these?  Would they have continued use of the engine?

Thanks,
Terry

Heres the real answer. Only a few CII had the 262 diesel. I have been offering cash for one to prove its existence. Seems none have survived. Had one call from here in SD. Guy told me where he seen one, But it is too far just for me to go peek. Waiting for some pictures of one to turn up but that aint happened either.

I've seen pictures of C-2's with the mighty D262 turbo diesel engine, but never the real thing........kind of like leprechaun's......heard a lot about them, but never seen one !!!!

I have two 262 TD from C II's.  One I put in a 45 diesel, that I pull a four bottom plow with and use at tractor pulls.  The other one is in a D-17 tractor.  We are running over 100 horse and we have never had trouble with it.  The non turbo 262 put in A II combines.  Both diesel combines A II and C II were very rare.

In the early 70's my dad had a CII with a factory 262t diesel and also an CII gas at same time and the diesel version was much more fuel efficent and more powerful than the gas version.we farmed 500 acres with the diesel until 1979 when we got a 1975 L.

C2 diesel combines were not that rare on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  I worked for Shaffer Equipment in Denton Md. and they had one that they used on their farms.  There were 2 in Talbot county around Easton, including Robert Saathoff.  There is one still running on the lower shore that I replaced the injection pump on in January of this year.  There may have been others but those are the ones that I know about.

I hope a few CII and AII diesels survive. I have never seen one. Although I never think to look and see if one is diesel at any sale.
