I have my D17-IV split to replace a seized throw out bearing.  Prior to the bearing seizing, my engine clutch worked fine.  Tractor has 3300 hours and I use it about 20 hours a year with my 3pt finish mower.  I plan to replace the throw out bearing, clutch, and pilot bearing.  The pressure plate and flywheel have heat cracks but are relatively smooth and flat.  I know some recommend to replace the entire pressure plate assy because of weak springs.  Looking for advise if I should replace pressure plate assy and if not, is machining of the pressure plate and flywheel necessary?   Who has quality parts and reasonable prices for these parts?  Thanks.

Replace all the parts that can wear, resurface the flywheel and be done with it.Cleanig up the flywheel is not money wasted, its good practice.  A poor clutch is only slightly better than no clutch.

If there is any "slop" in the PP springs (ie, they can be moved a little back and forth) and/or the PP plater surface has "burn" pattern(s) from the friction material, I would piut in a new/reman PP while it is split. Check with Tony Carbaugh, Jim Danforth, Sandy Lake Implement, and/or Albert at Dean AG for a new/reman PP and other clutch parts. They all advertise here on the forum and great people to do business with.
