I came across some interesting reading this morning in an old AC sales catalog. I did not realize that on the early big plows they used a special wooden pen to pin the plow to the tractor. They had a wooden pin that would break if they hit a rock or hard wooden root. I was wondering if anyone has seen these. This hitch was used as a substitute for the spring loaded hitches on the smaller pull type plows. I read where the spring loaded hitch could be bought for these plows for a more expensive cost.  Dave.

Prolly didnt work well since the first time it broke they were likely replaced with  RR spikes, or sucker rod, or steam engine wheel spokes or a Model T wrench handle with the resulting mess next time, LOL.

There was a NOS box of those pins on ebay a while back. I didn't get them.

The protective connection on the elevator at our club grounds is one Dad had laying around. It had 2 half inch bolts in it and was rusted tight. I cleaned it up, dipped it in the electrolysis bucket and turned some wooden pins for it. Maybe I shouldn't have made them out of hedge wood ehh, Butch. LOL I have a bag full of extra pins around somewhere but the original ones I put in are only 6 or 7 years old and still working fine.

The New York Steam Engine Assoc has platform plows with wooden pegs.  If I understand correctly, the peg would break allow the plow to trip if it hit something too hard/immovable.

I once operated a walk behind trencher that used wood shear pins.
