Below the 7 pin trailer light connection on my F150 is this connection in the picture. Anyone know what this is? I thought I would find a 4 pin connection but found this instead.

Thanks I would have never guessed that!! I suppose some type of camera plugs in there for use when backing up trailers? Seems like a lot of unnecessary stuff on vehicles nowadays. Just more trouble down the road.

OK, I got curious and it's still dark and COLD here,  seems Ford had another 'better idea' and offers a $1,000 TRAILER TPMS kit.
Not to sure why 12 pins are needed

Trailer towing package. A friend put tire pressure monitoring on his big toy hauler when they went south for the winter. Saved him from tearing up the trailer a couple times when he had tires go flat. First tires were factory original and we know they don't last. He did upgrade very soon after.

The Ford F-150 Smart Trailer Tow Connector is an advanced feature that provides real-time diagnostics and alerts for your connected trailer, monitoring brake lights, turn signals, battery health, and more, displayed on the truck's dashboard for better awareness, often bundled with other towing tech like Smart Hitch and Pro Trailer Backup Assist in higher-end packages. It's part of Ford's integrated system to simplify towing by giving drivers instant feedback on trailer function and electrical issues, enhancing safety and convenience.

Unnecessary crap, sales pitch nonsense that costs too much delivers too little and is too model/make specific.

Enhanced convenience sure. It allows someone who can't back s trailer to drive a truck and trailer. Maybe allows your wife or driver to go to the horse show by themselves. But it isn't a convenience when it doesn't work and creates a hassard. Or your wife wants you to fix it. Then it's just an expensive PITA.

Dang you would get rid of all the traffic troubles in Calyforny if they had to back up using mirror out here to get a license.

I was 21 when dad bought the 20 foot gooseneck to haul cows. We loaded in a lot of crazy places, around the corner many times. Many times without any help getting around that corner, other than a mirror. After turning 45 I got involved in the vineyard business. No atv the first 2 seasons, used my pickup in 10 foot wide rows hauling trellis supplies and other misc. Only 200 yards down a 1/4 mile row, much quicker to back up than go a head and come back. I really learned to back up with the mirror. Today with stiff old bones I don't think of backing up without looking in the mirror. The heck with trying turn my head to look.

But have come to really like the backup camera in the wifes SUV. It is almost magical the way you can see around the monster truck parked next to you in cramped packing lots.

Tire monitors are wireless anyway. I don't think they area bad idea to keep people from tearing up horse trailers and campers from a blown tire on the interstate. It still requires tire inspection. Back up cameras are nice on the wife's new little SUV. Too many built in blind spots. Backing up with the gooseneck and dually is not a problem with good big mirrors.

Ford trailering concepts are totally off-the-rails stupid.    They've gone from being a simple trailer light/brake connector, to a dysfunctional cybernetic piece of junk.

Back when Ford purchased the for-purpose integrated controller from Tekonsha, it was an excellent system.  When Ford took over the design, 'improved' it with all their monitoring, alarms, and protection, it became an bloated, overcomplicated and unreliable liability.

I drive the F250, but not by choice... I've seen, and tolerated enough-  I will NEVER buy one.
