Good morning Orangemen. I am doing some research in hopes to find a powershift clutch pack for my 7040 that I could swap into my pulling tractor in case of failure. My tractor is a 1976. Any assistance is appreciated.

There are 6 clutch packs in a Power Shift transmission and a torque limiter clutch on the flywheel. Which one do you want ????

I am looking for the 6 pack assembly, not the limiter.

The whole PST transmission???   If the tranny you have is healthy and has the regulator pressure adjusted up a bit, 300 HP isn't an issue. Have you pulled this tractor yet ?? the torque limiter is the first thing that will slip, not the tranny. What gear(s) do you intend on pulling in ??

There's been a couple of good County Fair pulls posted on here that has a strong 8000 series FWA with PST and I'd guess you haven't seen the power he produces going down the track and winning the class. Probably 18,000 lbs or heavier.   Posted in the tractor pull section by : Never Green   "Son takes first at the fair again".    Mr. Never Green has several pull videos of "farm" tractors that do quite well.

Torque limiter has bolts to prevent slipping. I've pulled it 5 or 6 times successfully. I have not turned up the PS pressure yet. I did test all PS pressures and they were all around 200 psi.

I don't know if you have Facebook but here is a link of me pulling. Wasn't the greatest pull. I lost boost at 200 feet because I slowed down when I broke 6 mph limit. I was pulling at 10,500. I also need to shift more weight to the rear.

Not trying to be smart or anything but if it was me id try to find a complete transmission. That not that terrible a job. Ive done it 3 times. In my mind to change internals could get more dicey. Maybe you are a old hand at it and know more about it than i do

I agree. Healthy powershifts seem hard to come by though. I would consider myself a very capable mechanic/machinist that has never touched a powershift so anything could happen. I would like a replacement because I both work and farm and I know that it would take some serious time to go through one on the fly and get back to pulling.

Should have been down one gear. A right hand throttle and a right hand power shift lever isn't the best scenario to have. Can you run 3,000 RPM??  If there isn't a rule against it, make it so. I assume you were in 5th gear ??

I was in 6th, should have been in 5th.

Ground speeds on a 7040 PST and 18.4 x 38 rubber is 5.4 MPH in 5th and 6.8 MPH in 6th at 2300 RPM.   20.8 tires are faster yet.  6th was clearly too much gear in a 6.5 MPH class and your engine wasn't spooling up whatever turbo is on it because of low RPM.   5th gear at 3,000 RPM is 7.0 MPH with 18.4 rubber. A gear that you actually will stay spooled up and still manage to turn the tires faster.

And I found this pull too. I think it’s the same tractor only different track & looks like driver downshifted near end of pull?Nevergreen if you read this post & watch video, please verify.

That is the same  tractor with my kid driving, but it is a PD tractor.  Have another 8050 with the power shift my brother drives, used to do very well until he started messing with weights so now my kid whoops up on him.

Thanks. Great pull too. Your son downshifted PS lots on it too. Nice smooth shifts. Allis’ PowerShift transmissions were built tough. Did you do any mods to its PS ?

Just turned up the pressure, it has over 11,000 hrs on it and it has never been pulled apart.
Turned the standby pressure all the way down on the piston pump just so the brakes  work, swear it stars easier that way.
Not sure of the HP, 200cc of fuel and a ported ex manifold with a 3lm , we figure we better not push the hp any higher with the tractor being so heavy, sicky clay track.
