Maybe they had an engine laying around a tractor that needed one? It would certainly make a machine out of that 460! There was a guy on the Red Power board some years back that re-powered a 706 with a 301, was pretty well received.

I don't know anything about the AC engines that new. A little research tells me those came in Gleaner combines too... and there are plenty of Gleaner combines around here that get worn out but the engines still run. Its a later model 301 because it has two oil filters. The oil cooler looks like the one on my 940 loader. Im not sure but i think its different from whats on a 200 tractor. Ive never seen a 301 in a combine so i dont know how they are arranged ------------- 1984 80780 1957 D14 DES 300 with 25000 engine 616 tractor |

My Bro-in-law had a Ford tractor with an International engine (maybe an A?) grafted on to it, definitely an upgrade from the flathead. |
