I have a 1950 WD, it has a Zenith Bendix carb on it but it does not appear to be the one from the factory. The assembly number on the carb is 12544 which I believe is a model 68. Iam doing a restoration on the tractor so my question is, Is the model 68 a better Carb than the original one that came from the factory or should it be replaced with the original one.
I suspect the Zenith model 68 came off of a IH because the tractor also has the IH battery ignition unit distributor on it. The tractor does run after replacing the condenser, adjusting the points and cleaning the carb.Just looking for some advice on if the model 68 is better than the original and what not. This is going to be a restoration project so I may be asking more questions if I have a difficult time finding information in the forum.

"Better" ??    A Zenith carb is a Zenith carb. I see the throttle shaft protrudes clear thru the upper body and has a cotter pin and spacer on it. That doesn't hurt a thing other than there are two throttle shaft seals to maintain to prevent vacuum leaks. The overall performance will get down to the inner size of the venturi/throttle plate diameter (how much air it can flow) and the jetting to match the venturi. It must have ran at one time. Maybe it has a larger venturi? and will make more HP than a stock WD carb ?? You won't know until you knock it down and measure parts and compare to a legit WD gasoline carb.
