My D 17 series 1 suddenly stops when engine gets up to running temp and the starter won’t be able to turn it over again. If I let the engine cool down good , it will start right up again. It will repeat the same problem if I let it run. It is never running hot, but at normal running temp. I had recently put in new pistons and liners, which I did with the engine in the tractor. Any ideas what might be going on?

Piston pins not centered more likely.

Did you get the rods turned right when you assembled the engine? Just had a WD45 reworked that I bought that was doing about you described,No 2 and 3 were wrong.

Are the rings gapped correctly? I had the same problem when I forgot to gap the rings in an earlier rebuild, I was 16 yrs old at the time.

Yah. If you don't put the rods in right and center the pins in the bore you will mess things up.

If you didn't clean the lower bores totally your sleeve may be getting squeezed when hot and be grabbing the piston.
