The Fonthill General Store and Post Office

Located on KY76East between KY80 and KY910 on the South side of KY80 and the South side of KY76.

37.082840°N  85.001564°W Elev. 947'

The Camera is on KY Hwy 80 East.

That is KY Hwy 76, just barely missing the corner of the front porch, passing between the store and the house beyond.

The Cumberland Parkway is just beyond the far barns in the background.

Recent Street View shows this store building to be up on steel and being seriously strengthened and restored.

Rotating Bolt Bin inside Creelsboro Country Store

I believe this cabinet and many like it were built for and supplied by the hardware company that supplied the bolts.

If a store owner made a large enough initial purchase of bolts, one of these cabinets was provided at no extra cost; the hardware company made enough profit on that initial purchase to absorb the cost of the cabinet.

Once the cabinet was in place, then a route salesman would come by occasionally and replenish the stock.

Most such stores were out of the reach of telephone lines and their only contact with suppliers were the U.S.Mail and route salesmen.

Look at the circular sawmill marks in that rough-sawn Oak floor(or it could be extinct Chestnut).

The Jot 'em Down Store

I can cross The Jot 'em Down Store off my bucket list; I have been there.

I had a Diablo Burger and a Doctor Pepper and a Zero candy bar.

Located at the Intersection of Russell Cave Road and Iron Works Pike in the South West corner, fronting on Russell Cave Road.

This is where the whose who of the Bluegrass horse world take their lunch and mingle with the riders and trainers.

I love these old stores.
We still have Stubs grocery in the next town over and the Riverview store right down the road from here. They’ve modernized the interior of Riverview a little but it still has the same character it has always had.
I usually stop for coffee every afternoon and go up on cold weekends in the morning.
Recently we were working long hours and I didn’t get in for a few days. The old men in there had Miss Dana calling me to make sure I was ok. She said they were driving her nuts worrying about me.
Down south of here we have the Oark store. Oldest store in Arkansas. They have the best burgers and homemade pie.
I take a motorcycle ride down there every chance I get.

Didn't Sheriff Buford T. Justice order a Diablo Sandwich and a Dr. Pepper in the movie Smokey and the Bandit? It's been near 50 years since I saw it.
