Good morning. Working on replacing the gerotor pump seal and pump drive shaft seal on a 7040. I'm seeing in the parts breakdown that some piston pumps have shaft seals, some don't. A preliminary look at my pump says it could have a seal, but currently doesn't. Should it? I'm also wondering about gerotor pump oring. I'm not talking about the 2 identical orings on the diameter of the gerotor pump, but the oring that sits on the face of the gerotor housing. Thank you

Piston pumps on tractors never had a shaft seal. Combine pumps did.  If there is a gerotor pump Oring, it needs to be there. Wrap the gerotor pump shaft splines like a barber pole, one layer with slight overlap with good black electrical tape. Oil the tape and slide the seal over the splines now without damaging the seal.
