EP DAY...So we did some site prep with the HD11EP . This tractor has been sitting on the back of the ranch property all winter. With over 60'' of rain this past winter ....we couldn't do to much. So the goal here is either cow pasture or timber stand improvement on some of the young timber that did not burn in the wildfire.

Besides having fun on a dozer, are you trying get more grass for grazing? At first I thought you had a lot of Toyon brush as a lot of what you're clearing. But with closer picture father on, I see it is not. But the root balls stopping the dozer is very much the same as removing Toyon. With the Toyon if you don't get the root ball you really have not accomplished much.

Ray....We've spent over 50 years trying to be selective and manage our hardwoods for the benefit of wild life and livestock. We also had some timber that we were taking care of. After the 2017 fire.....and how fast it went away....I developed a new attitude...."I'M OVER IT"...the tree thing. We were going to replant Doug Fir where we logged...had 2 years of drought....that kept being postponed. I decided it would make pretty good grass land. I'm sure you know that cattle prices are also better than they've ever been in 50 years. So the attitude now is if it is good dozer ground...the brush rake tractors are coming. The trees that are left have to be 100% healthy...if there's damage from the fire they go to the pile.

I knew a trained eye would see me bumping up against those root balls. Those are Madrone stumps...some of them very large. So I was breaking of the suckers to pile....wasn't going to fight with the stumps at this time....the other brush was heavy to Manzanita...coyote brush poison oak..Madrone . Hoping to have our 21C in service later this spring. If and when ''all the stumps come out''

My family started using AC dozers with a WW2 surplus AC HD 14. My uncle ended up in the dozer business the rest of his life. Went on to buy a AC HD 14 C with the torch converter drive when it came on the market. Then in 1972 bought a lightly used HD 21. Then got into the garbage business for the city of Paso Robles. Which nauseated even more equipment to always have a back up available. So a HD 16 and then a Fiat-Allis FD 30. And like you guys seem to be into your own repairs, he was as well.

My dad was more into livestock, so I never got the opportunity to really get into dozer work. But farmed with crawler tractors for 50 + years. This is the first year I don't have any hay to make.

Lots of acreage here has been cleared of Oaks , Coastal live Oak, Valley/White Oak, and Blue Oak. With lots of Poison Oak, Toyon, Manzanita, and a few others. But with poor decisions by the corporate wine business world, we need permits to cut a tree down for the last 5 years. But it is hard to clear much and think your making money doing it for the last 30 years. So keep on having fun, while you can. And again thanks for sharing.

That looks like a really handy setup for clearing pastures. Seems like most guys here use skid steers with mowers or mulchers and that sure doesn't take out the roots.

What's the engine RPM bounce/surge at higher speeds/less load, maybe?
