| Hi, everybody, my name is Collin Moore and I am 14 years old. I own a 1948 Allis Chalmers All Crop 60 combine. I rescued this machine out of a woods that it had been sitting in for 60+ years. I put roughly 1,400 hours of labor into this machine to get it back into service. I’ve pulled it in a couple of parades and harvested soy beans with it last season. It’s a ton of fun! A couple of really cool things about it is the fact that it is an aluminum model machine instead of the normal steel sheet metal machines that you see all the time. It also has a cylinder speed gauge that I got off of my 66 parts machine that I bought out of Indiana. Anyways, ever since the first day I looked at the 60, the be careful sign on the grain tank has always caught my eye. On all of the other machines I have ever saw the be careful sign has been a white background with black lettering. However, this one is a sort of charcoal gray background with black lettering. Do I have some sort of super rare sign or did 60 years of being out in the elements get to it? I’m also thinking that since it’s an aluminum machine because of the shortage of steel back then I wonder if there was a shortage of whatever they used to make the signs. Any responses would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to learn as much as possible about the All Crop line! Thank you! |

. An all aluminum harvester seems unique. Maybe you found a prototype machine that escaped the test lab? Aluminum oxide can color finishes and other materials differently than iron red rust. So you may see a different corrosion discoloration. Be sure and try and show other crops you've run through the All Crop! Buckwheat, rye, alfalfa, and more. .

I tested the sign with a magnet and it is made out of some sort of other metal. It was not magnetic, so I’m going to guess it’s made out of aluminum and like you said maybe it oxidized in someway and turned a different color. I have only ran soy beans with it, but this year I plan to run wheat with it.

I'm betting it's just a "generic" sign installed by the previous owner some decades back. Use google lens and you'll see some come up just like it. |
