I have just exchanged a gasoline powered F-2 combine with an F diesel engine. I have had complete success with the exception of getting the tachometer hooked up. The F-2 gas model used a sensor in the flywheel housing to sense engine RPM but the diesel has no sensor in the flywheel housing. Does anyone know where the diesel gets its tach impulses from. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

I am thinking that I could be from the end of the alternator?  HTH.

Hey HTH; I sure appreciate the quick answer. I think that you could be right. I did notice that the alternator on the F diesel had previously replaced with a cheaper alt with built in regulator. I guess I need to look up orignal alternator and see if it had a tach wire. Thanks Again.

The engine that you took out, was it a Chevrolet or Allis?

look at the main drive pulley there should be notches on it where a magnetic pickup would pickup rpms. They would be on the inside, engine side, of pulley. Pickup is bolted to combine frame.

Thanks Sam-t Ga,I will check out your suggestion and post what I find. I did however think that I looked at the area that you suggested, but I'm not sure. Thanks Again!
