Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and am in need of some information/guidance.  I have an HD11E with a Carco F model winch that I need to do something with in the near future.  It has been sitting a handful of years and to my knowledge nothing was wrong with it when parked.  It was my dad's dozer and when his health started deteriorating, he had to park it because he was just physically unable to run it for any significant amount of time.  The battery is missing so I don't even know what type it needs.  What else do I need to do before even attempting to fire it up?  I'm kind of a jack of all trades type and a fairly newly licensed aircraft mechanic, but I honestly don't know much about diesels.  I had trouble compressing the pictures for the forum, so I apologize for the poor image quality.  I will get more pictures uploaded this evening hopefully.
Any help is much appreciated.

If you could, post a photo of the fuel injection pump before you try to start the engine. You don't want to break the hydraulic head on this thing if it is frozen from setting as parts are NLA and few and far between.

The pump will be on the left front side of the engine with the steel fuel lines exiting running to the fuel injectors in the cylinder head. Not speaking down to you at all but diesels are different than GA engines. Please show the entire pump unit.

You need 24 volt battery for starting and check oil engine and radiator coolant too

These are the only pictures I currently have and I'm nearly a two hour drive from there.  It may be a month or more before I get back out there.  I have done some minor work on 12 and 24v cummins and I owned a kenworth for a few years with a cat 3406e, so not completely oblivious to diesels.  My concern is internal condensation and potentially bad fuel from sitting for 5-10 years and if anyone may know the best way to approach it.  Trying to decide if it's worth the trouble for me to tackle it or just try to sell it as it sits or trade for something I can actually use.  I don't have a lot of free time and I sold my semi a few years ago.  I'm assuming I just need a couple of big 12v batteries wired in series, just didn't know if there's a preferred size or type I should look into for this dozer.  Also don't know how to approach the fuel system with diesel that's been sitting for so many years.  Such as draining/flushing the tank and lines or cleaning the injectors etc.

I interpret this as being the most important factor for you. If so, you may still want to hook up a couple of batteries and give it a whirl, you may be pleasantly surprised. In a dry environment such as yours it is not unusual for an engine to fire right up. Give it a snort of good quality ether (the 50% stuff).

If it doesn't start, just walk away.

Edit: I'm diggin' the old road grader in the background! Cool

If the diesel is pre low sulfur, it could start like you ran it yesterday.  Was just told of HD9 like that last week. Steering clutch was stuck so only turned one way.

If the oil is not already mixed with water, loosen the drain plugs and let condensation out. The see if it starts.

Hope it never sat like that for last5 years with no tin on exhaust ??
Admitidly i have no idea of your climate; but eventually everywhere gets rain ??
Would be better if we had a close up of fuel pump; as im not quite sure if would have had a american bosch pump or if its late enough to have a Roosamaster pump; certainly got 11000 engine and wet back end.
Would love to get my paws on that winch ! Is a super rare Carco FO-1 2 speed oil field winch. But alas im just abit far away from you. . .as in oceans and mega miles !
Hopefully she can be saved

Looks to be a Roosa-Master pump by the routings of the fuel lines.

Looking back into my manuals I still believe that to be a Roosa-Master pump with possibly a later model engine installed. There is no "Allis Chalmers" branding on the intake manifold as a single example. As we know, the FIAT involvement eliminated this branding. I don't know the production run of the "E" tractors so could be way off base admittedly.

The fuel pump discharge pipe routings on the original PSB injection pumps came from the top of the hydraulic head rather than from the rear as the photos look to show?
