Greetings from Georgia. I am new to the forum but not new to AC tractors or garden tractors. Truth be told, at 78 I am not "new" to very much. My thoughts are concerning a 720 AC. The 720 belongs to a fellow located about an hour north of me. The tractor has sat for many years outside (under cover) and has not been touched. He has no use for it and would like it gone. Based on some pictures I have the 720 is complete with a mower deck, 3 point, and rear PTO. The list of "things" it would need is extensive to say the least. He told me that the tractor was "running when parked" for what that is worth. The term "basket case" and "pile of iron" immediately came to mind when I thought about doing anything about it. I have a fair amount of experience with old iron and engines. I have rebuilt numerous ONAN and Kohler engines over the last years and several transaxles and mower decks for John Deere, Allis, MTD, and older Cub Cadets (before and after MTD). My gut tells me this would be a significant challenge. My wife says I am out of what little mind I have left! I am wondering if anyone younger than me, (which is most people), would me interested in the unit for parts or restoration project. As soon as the weather clears, I may undertake getting the tractor and bringing it to the shop. Way too much mud in the next couple of weeks to attempt it for now. Hi Steve Welcome to the 'Unofficial Allis' Forum. Being that I am the same age as you (1946'r) I would be pondering the same question. I have been around Allis all my life (my dad was a Dealer as of 1953) but have never owned a 620 or a 720. That is a popular Model and you often see them at Tractor Shows. Others on here can suggest a dollar value, but if the price was within reason, I would go ahead and buy it. And if in time it is more work than you want to attempt, then you could resell it. Thanks Gary, I was farm raised with a Ford 2N and a WC. The Ford was "modern" as it was a battery start, not so the WC. The best AC was the WD45 with power steering that the neighbor had. As for price for the 720, we talked about it some, but less than 200.00. I did promise not to charge him to haul it away and not to damage the yard while loading it. |

I have 2-720’s. They are built like tanks. Most times they are fun to work on lol. If your familiar with Onan engines then that’s a huge plus. Usually very reliable and they are true work horses. The tractor alone weighs 1,300 lbs, mower deck another 225 lbs. They are built heavy duty so keep the weight in mind when you go to pick it up. I restored one of mine from the frame up 9 years ago, the parts for the Onan are expensive. If I could fine one in that price range I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it. Deck alone is worth that. I have a 3 pt Danco brush cutter, sickle mower, 2 front blades, single bottom plow, mower deck and a front snowthrower for mine. Again, a workhorse and they are fun to operate. Good luck, and I would pounce on it before it gets away from ya. Greetings from SNOWY Georgia! At least some flurries. Thanks for the generous offer, however the only money that will change hands will be between the buyer and seller. I am not in this to be a broker. I spoke to the owner about his plans to be at the property and he thinks it will be at least mid March before he is there. He said that he will give as much of a heads up as to the schedule as possible. When he does I will let you know. My plans are still uncertain, due to health concerns so I will keep posting updates here. Speaking of money, I think I have made money on only one or two tractors and implements over the years. I try to break even when I can. My best deal was a tractor that I sold before I unloaded it from the trailer, a John Deere 318. The worst was a Cub Cadet that was a money pit. Every time I started the thing I found something else that failed. At least it keeps me busy. Thanks Steve |
