I have a 1938 B that I m currently restoring, the right final drive is cracked around the drawbar. Would final drive from a 1940 B work. The reason I ask is, someone told me the early models had a different final drive, however they look the same to me.

Should interchange fine... Some have said the gear ratio is slightly different.. I can not confirm that... The housing would definitely be the same... The draw bar mounting holes on the earlier tractors were 1/2 inch i believe, and the later were 5/8 inch.
------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I have heard that there were some different final ratios over the course of production as well, and I would love to see conclusive info on that. I have found several different ground speed ranges given depending on the year of the sales literature.

I just looked up in the PARTS book and they list ONE bull gear for the B... but a couple options for the C.... As John said, the ground speed seemed to change over the years and SOME have said this is due to the final drive ratio.... I tend to think it is more related to the TIRE SIZE and GOVERNOR speed which changed over the years...

Ok thanks, I’ll count the teeth, and check the size of the bull gear.
