Can the ring gear be flipped over on a c allis with out a lot of grinding from the starter? ------------- If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice. |

Rather than flip it over, you are better to take it off and turn it 1/4 turn. Some ring gears are tapered on the starter side, so you should keep that side toward the starter. A four-cylinder engine always stops in one of two places (two pistons are the same position in the cylinder). Rotating the ring gear 1/4 turn will give you fresh "meat". Are you sure the grinding problem is the ring gear and not the starter drive?

It's $40 for a new one. I wouldn't go to the work of splitting the tractor and then try to save $40. Slap a new on in and be done with it. AaronSEIA
