Anyone here have a read on what company or manufacturer that supplied the hydraulic cylinders to AC Industrial Tractor Division for the 715, 816 and 918 loader backhoes? Any insights on this are very much appreciated. ~ Orangeman

Am looking for specific service parts like the end cap and header input for the hydraulic return and supply lines.

Sorry, I have no idea. But I would speculate on a couple of thoughts: I doubt that they made their own cylinders. I imagine they had a company that did that sort of manufacturing do it for them. They could have made their own, but I don't think so. With the Gleaner combine factory only 75 miles away, I can imagine they had someone contracted to do hydraulic cylinders for both product lines somewhere in the Kansas City area. Just a guess on my part tho.

Just to add a little here, I have a 1963 Dynahoe Backhoe Model A that uses a very similar header input on the rear stabilizers or outriggers. The header input is very close in both size and dimension to header input or bulkhead, (not sure of the right terminology) on the AC 715 backhoe. The shape of the header input looks like a quarter moon that is a weldment at about the half way point on the rear stabilizers or outriggers. The " header input" or bulkhead on the hydraulic cylinder that is mounted on the Dynahoe is very similar to the header input on the AC 715 loader backhoe as is the end cap. The AC 715 that I am working on is a very late 74 model so these header inputs were apparently an industry standard at one time. The half moon shaped header inputs or bulkhead allow the 2 wire hydraulic hoses to connect the supply and return flow of hydraulic fluid to the cylinder or stabilizers.

Am wondering while typing this if maybe Bucyrus Erie was involved in making the cylinders and were supplying the industry during the 60's and 70's? I know Bucyrus was involved in hydraulic designs for hydraulic cylinders as some of the very old International dozers had Bucyrus lift cylinders with the Bucyrus- Erie name embossed on the external fascia of the hydraulic cylinders.

I needed a new piston for my 715B and had one made from Aluminum to replace the cast iron on that had damage .
The threaded end cap I got from Minn-Par but that was 10 years back .
Other parts . I had hyd shop replace the rod that got bent , they welded the old I from old rod onto new one .
Now have the cylinder on my hoe off my 615 AC hoe that was on my HD4 as detachable unit . End caps on the outriggers have cracked at weld a few times but grinding old weld and rewelding has solved that problem
