From another form I am on a member when to buy a Skid Loader that was advertised in a Tractor Publication . The add ran in a well known and respected publication , and the web site and address brought up a dealer and location . Several pictures of machine were sent and other information . He was ready to transfer funds but had a question on shipping - but got a vague answer so he contacted someone in Wyoming to check dealership on shipping . NOW THE PROBLEM - The dealer ceased operations 5 years back . Someone cloned previous site and poses as still in business , paid for adds in publication , to make SCAM look real . Wyoming Sec of State lists the business as Closed for tax purposes . No license or renewing of license or settlement noted . So the SCAMMERS are setting up FAKE site and actually spending funds to look legit but are working new angles to fleece buyers .

Yep, I have discovered this twice on FB marketplace! One was for a compact tractor, the other for a camper trailer. Not exactly the same scam, in that it (they) was/were not offered by 'dealers', but they were ads cloned from others. In both cases it all fell apart when I asked for addresses so I could examine in person. At that point, all I got was excuses, not straight answers.

Had that happen a few years ago on a riding lawn mower. Was only 50 miles away, said I would come and bring cash, add went away instantly.

Oldest son had his Face Book account HACKED and they then changed his password and the E-mail account to respond to on FB . Next they got into his T Mobile phone account and changed passwords on that . Since he had his banking on phone they tried to access accounts there but bank said they needed in person verification to transfer and close account . ON the T-Mobile phone Hacker got them to change phone over to their phone sim so they intercepted all his phone calls , in fact his phone was working yet and T-Mobile sent him a number to call but when he got the text message from them the phone umber was not the same as he got when talking to rep - Hacker changed the texted number FB - well they said the SCAM ADD they posted on his site that he was selling a bunch my my assets to pay medical bills as I was in long term memory care . They let that add run - and several people sent deposits to Hackers to hold items for them as add said - ON inspection they could get a refund if item was not as advertised or they changed their mind on inspection . Odd the same add ran on 2 more sites I found out -one on my Cousin in Canada . Then got a response after I reported it to FB - they notified the HACKER his add was not right as sons father was not selling anything , so hacker changed the add to it was his uncles property he was selling - STILL NOT RESOLVED

I noticed an ad on Marketplace for a tractor in the nearest city to me. There are no dealers there and I would recognize the area if the picture was local. This ad had lots of hardwood trees in the background, something you don't see much in Colorado. I looked through all the pictures and saw a sign on the building, googled the name and came up with a used tractor dealer in Ohio. Sent the dealer a direct email telling them it looks like they were being scammed, never heard back but the ad was gone a couple days later.

Yep, the new scourge in stealing..... What needs to happen is that when they catch these AHs, is stand em up to a wall and give them a good send off. IF that were to happen, it would cut down considerately on these bastiches.... We need to go back to the old West laws...

Gotta say though, “bastiches” made me laugh! I thought it was spelled “bastages” though. I learned something!

The better half got a message a few days ago, purportedly from FB Marketplace, stating that there'd been multiple reports of fraudulent selling activity on her account & that the account would be deleted in 24 hours. It was made to look more convincing as screenshots of some of her recent listings were included in the message. (and might have been a spurious scam/illegal listing added in to ramp up the scare factor, didn't look that close)
Of course, there was a link to appeal this decision & when looked into it redirected to a fake login page. Account the message came from was actually a personal account on facebook with the name set as "MarketpIace Admin" or something like that (Note uppercase I in place of lowercase l).
The scammers are everywhere, need to be constantly vigilant. (I did actually click through the fake login & for the "email & password" I wrote a nice message for the scum. Not advisable but I like to insult them wherever possible!)
