My Operation tach quit working. So I took the tach cable off the engine behind the fuel filters and found the drive that spins the cable to be seized and the key at the bottom of the drive had sheared the pin. I don't know much about this and I have been trying to look for replacement parts for the drive. I have not been able to get the drive completely apart so it will release the one end of the tach cable. Does anyone have any insight on this or input on the situation? Appreciate the help.

The Tach on my D17 III did not work when I purchased the tractor several years ago. The drive cable had sheared off at the connection flange to the engine drive unit. I was able to remove the remaining "stub" of the drive cable from the engine drive unit. The new cable could then enter the space and engage the engine drive
The cause of the broken cable was a seized Operation Meter. I was able to take the Operation Meter apart and clean it and got it operating properly. Here is a link referring to the topic fyi

Hope the pictures help. I’m sorry they are so large. My D17 diesel drive. Drive the pin out that I am pointing to. Remove the drive shaft, once I cleaned it up, I used a long skinny punch to drive the tach cable out.
