| Good morning everybody. I was wondering on my d17 series 1 when I took the front pedestal off and the retaining plate there was 2 different kinds of gaskets 1 was a steel shim and the other one was a Valium shim but there was at least 3 of each, and when I order parts from agco them 2 part numbers only say I only need 1 of each just wondering how I should put it back together. Thanks |

As long as they were not damaged, clean them and put it back together in the same order they come off. I did my D17 and presently doing my D14 that way. | Every tractor is different for total count. That's why they are called shims. The design is (ideally) a paper shim on each side of a steel shim so it doesn't leak oil. |

| WHY ??? After 50+ years of operation, why would you want to change the shim stack thickness ?? or do you have damaged paper shims ?? |

The paper shims are very fragile, gentle removal of parts are required as well as the proper sequence of all shims during reassembly. This gives the proper clearance's of the bearings to their bearing cup. I’m sure there is a term for this but it eludes me at this time. It is the reason for me using my front support and internal parts along with the idle gear and power steering parts from the parts tractor front support. The steering shaft sector that I am referring to is on the left. Both bearings are damaged due to water in the front support. Bearing cup in the front support and the other bearing cup in the shaft retainer. | Yes when I took mine apart it ripped some of the paper shims and the bearings were bad in it. This tractor before it’s all done will just about have every bolt and nut taken apart. |
